My Favorite Things About Castaway Cay

So Castaway Cay is Disney’s very own private island. It’s open for tourist but only if you are taking a Western or Eastern Caribbean cruise on Disney Cruise Line. It’s beautiful, relaxing and is my absolute favorite day when on a Disney Cruise. Here is a list of my favorite things about Castaway Cay.

1. The Beautiful Beach- The beach is unlike any one that I have been to before. The water is so turquoise and crystal clear. I can clearly see the sandy bottom and what was swimming around me. What’s also nice is that it’s in a cove so the water is very still and you don’t have to worry about waves. Nothing beats relaxing on a float on the still ocean water!

2. Plenty of Chairs and Umbrellas- And they are free! There is no rental fee for chairs, lounges, umbrellas or hammocks. And there are plenty for everybody. I didn’t see one person laying on their beach towel in the sand. Everyone had something to sit or lay on. Our Castaway Cay day was the very last stop on our cruise and my daughter was exhausted from the  last 4 days of Disney Cruise fun that she conked out in a hammock on the island for 4 hours!

3. The Food- There are two buffet style restaurants on the island, Cookies BBQ and Cookies Too. Both serve bbq style food. What’s great is the large selection of food they have. I have a vegetarian and two picky eaters in my family and there were plenty of acceptable things for everyone to eat. When you go expect there to be hamburgers, fish, chicken, corn on the cob, fresh fruit, salads and desserts. All food and beverages, except alcoholic beverages, are included in the price of your Disney Cruise so don’t expect to have to pay extra for this one either! Oh and don’t forget about the all you can eat ice cream!!

4. Towels Are Provided- Really, the only thing you need to bring with you to the island is your sunscreen and your Key To The World Card because everything else is provided for you. When you step off the ship you will see a rack of clean, rolled up towels. Just grab however many you need before you hop on the tram to the beach and your covered!

5. Activities- Snorkeling is free on the island. There is a designated area just for swimming with the fish. You do have to rent the snorkel gear but it’s a must do while on the island. Our family bought a package deal before we left that included a float, snorkel gear and bike rentals for everyone in our family. The bike trail is beautiful and is a nice alternative to hanging out on the beach all day. My son loved Pelican Plunge, the water slide area at the beach. I gotta say I really loved it too! You have to swim up to the play area and then you choose from two slides and then swim around and do it again! It’s a lot of fun!

6. Photo Opportunities and Character Meet & Greets- We didn’t bother to get our pictures taken with some of our favorite characters on the ship since you have to get a ticket and wait in line. I had heard that the classic characters like Mickey, Minnie, Pluto and Donald would be on the island for photos and meet and greets and the lines wouldn’t be as long. We didn’t see Mickey or Donald but my kids got their picture with Minnie Mouse and my brother and I got a pic with Pluto. There is also a designated spot to get a pic with Captain Jack Sparrow who has also been seen just wondering around the island! Also, don’t forget to get a family pic at Mt. Rustmore!

Our Castaway Cay day was my favorite day on our Disney Cruise. If Disney had a cruise route that included multiple days at Castaway Cay I would be on it!

Have you been to Castaway Cay? What were the highlights of your visit?
